Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
- 10 years of experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, performing statistical analysis, and coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL) or 8 years of experience with a Master's degree.
- Experience with statistical data analysis such as linear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, sampling methods.
- Experience with data mining, querying, and managing investigative projects.
- Experience in developing and managing metrics or evaluating programs/products.
Preferred qualifications:
- PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related discipline).
- 12 years of experience in data analysis, quantitative research, focusing on statistical data analysis, modeling, experimentation, causal inference, and programming (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
- Experience with machine learning on large datasets using statistical and modeling techniques.
- Ability to articulate concepts to all stakeholders, influence decisions, and drive change, while consistently solving unstructured business problems with data science to deliver measurable, impactful recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially executive facing communication.
About the job
Our goal is to drive Search product excellence and growth with data insights. We do research on topline and operational metrics for Search products to help them make data driven decisions. We work closely with product teams to help them build products that users love. This includes headroom analysis, product market fit, experiment analysis, and help leadership make trade-offs between competing metrics. We perform analysis to help senior leadership make big investment decisions. We measure and help reduce misinformation in Search results, increase user trust and provide insights to drive responsible growth.
As a Data Scientist for Search Experience, you will measure and improve Google's Search Experience product. You will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and analysts on a wide range of problems. This position will bring problem-solving skills and statistical methods to the challenges of measuring quality, improving consumer products, and understanding the behavior of end-users.
As a key member of the team, you will work with engineers to analyze and interpret data, develop metrics to measure results and integrate new methodologies into existing systems.
Responsibilities
- Apply advanced methods using tools (SQL, R, Python) to datasets. Use insights to drive business decisions and improvements.
- Owns project outcomes from problem definition and data manipulation to the creation of models, effectively solving ambiguous problems by framing issues, generating hypotheses, and developing solutions.
- Ability to synthesize investigative insights and generate credible, data-driven narratives.
- Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to leadership at multiple levels, utilizing visual displays of quantitative information to make compelling business recommendations.
- Oversees the integration of cross-functional initiatives, develops process improvements, and directly or indirectly oversees the contributions of others, fostering colleagues' capabilities in specialized areas.
