Software Engineering Manager, Home Infrastructure, Policy and Compliance

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, Javascript).
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
  • 3 years of experience with embedded operating systems.
  • Experience with technical infrastructure.
  • Experience with policy compliance.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a matrixed organization.
  • Experience in back-end coding languages like GOLang, Rust, or Java.
  • Experience in Machine Learning (ML) model coding languages (e.g., Python).
  • Experience with distributed infrastructure and working across multiple systems.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

The Home Infrastructure team is responsible for empowering the development and operation of compelling Home experiences with efficient serving and offline infrastructure, coherent internal developer platforms to support journeys, easy to use and well-structured APIs, trusted data services, and systems to manage and build user trust.

In this role, you will focus on creating the building blocks that will enable the Home organization to manage data with care.

The Google Home team focuses on hardware, software and services offerings for the home, ranging from thermostats to smart displays. The Home team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Set and communicate team priorities that support the organization's goals. Align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams.
  • Set expectations with a person based on their level and role and aligned to the organization's goals. Meet with people to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Manage a Software Engineering team in Policy Engineering.
  • Contribute to the technical roadmap and plan for infrastructure policy building blocks to be used by all home products to build policy compliant experiences.
  • Lead the team in scaling the current approaches to policy to the entire Home organization.
