Data Center Facilities Manager

Minimum qualifications:

  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in Electrical, Mechanical/HVAC, or Controls/Automation experience in an industrial/commercial environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 6 years of experience in maintenance and monitoring of server systems.
  • Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.
  • Experience collaborating and partnering with teams.
  • Experience in team and project management and leadership.

About the job

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facility Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components). You'll provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.

You will develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

As a Data Center Facilities Manager, you will be a critical leader responsible for the 24/7 operation of our data center campus. You will lead a high-performing team, ensuring adherence to strict SLAs for uptime, efficiency, and cost management. This role demands thinking to plan and execute operational budgets, drive cost-effective operations, and integrate Google-wide strategies with internal and external partners. You will be instrumental in growing the campus team, identifying key hiring needs, and developing innovative solutions to optimize data center performance while maintaining rigorous environmental and safety standards. You will also be the point of escalation for managing data center performance issues and outages, ensuring minimal recovery time from failures.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute campus operational budgets, conduct expense forecasting, and manage established budgets, while developing strategies for cost-effective operations focused on total cost of ownership.
  • Set strategy and plan deployments across multiple sites, leading efforts to integrate Google-wide strategies and execution with internal and external business partners.
  • Grow the campus team to meet business needs, leverage technical talent across the campus, and identify key hiring needs for regional data centers.
  • Ensure 24/7 data center operations meet SLAs for uptime and efficiency, manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize recovery time, and maintain environmental and safety standards.
