Senior Supplier Quality Engineer, Mechanicals

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in the mechanical technology and manufacturing process.
  • Experience in statistical product quality control, process capability, reliability, failure analysis, and process improvement.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related equivalent practical experience.
  • American Society for Quality certification; Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Manager (CQM), Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA).
  • 10 years of experience in Quality/Reliability and Mechanical technology.
  • Understanding of mechanical manufacturing, assembly, components and solutions.

In this role, the Global Hardware Quality and Reliability team is responsible for the quality components and solutions to fuel Google's physical infrastructure.

As a Mechanical Supplier Quality Engineer, you evaluate product designs and create processes, tools and procedures behind quality solutions powering Google’s technology. When suppliers build parts for our infrastructure, you will ensure manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled. You will collaborate with Commodity managers and Design engineers to determine Google’s infrastructure needs and product specifications. You will ensure that the various pieces of Google’s infrastructure fit together and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience. You will be responsible for setting and managing the supplier quality and reliability standards for our Mechanical Infrastructure across Google's supply base. You will be the Quality and Reliability expert with a track record of improving the quality of thermal deliverables during New Product Introduction (NPI) as well as
maintaining it throughout the life cycle. You will have extensive involvement in the tools, processes and technologies used to assess mechanical product quality and reliability. You will leverage partner
management skills and utilize data to deliver manufacturing process improvements.Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $138,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Ensure the supplier quality and reliability of mechanical deliverables throughout the life cycle, delivering cross-functional activities in the supply chain for overall technical operational readiness in all NPI phases and Mass Production.
  • Provide consultation to the design, manufacturing and commodity teams in qualification, and application of mechanical technologies.
  • Assess suppliers’ capabilities from a quality perspective as part of new supplier selection activities and conduct quality and manufacturing process audits.
  • Interface with suppliers to share Parts Per Million (PPM) feedback from the fleet and deliver Return Material Authorization (RMA), Corrective Action Requests (CAR), Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) and Failure Analysis (FA).
  • Establish quality programs and process controls for early detection of issues. Utilize Design of Experiments (DOEs), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Industry standard tools to identify, address risks and optimize processes.
