Senior Software Engineer, Google Home Engineering Excellence

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in Java, C++ or Python.
  • 5 years of experience testing, launching software products, and building developer tools that improve developer velocity, code quality and code health (e.g., compilers, automated releases, code design and testing, test automation frameworks).
  • 1 year of experience in Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and automation testing.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience with building infrastructure for productivity for developers and engineers.
  • Experience in engineering productivity, developer tools, test automation, test automation framework.

The Google Home Engineering Excellence team drives velocity, quality and excellence for the software stack that powers the helpful home. We do this by building tooling, scalable test infrastructure and driving quality insights into the development process.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Work with multiple teams to solve technical problems that enable feature teams to ship quality code at high velocity.
  • Take end-to-end leadership on scalable infrastructure that spans across device software, services, and apps.
  • Deliver infrastructure to enable hermetic testing, automate developer workflows, integration testing and CI/CD.
  • Set technical direction and priorities for a small number of adjacent engineers within and across teams.
  • Generate the ideas required to solve technical problems and take full ownership of the solution.
