Security Engineer, Data Center Platforms and Infrastructure Security

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 year of experience with security assessments or security design reviews or threat modeling.
  • 1 year of coding experience in one or more general purpose languages.
  • 1 year of experience with hardware or firmware security.
  • Experience with security engineering, computer and network security and security protocols.
  • Experience in C, C++, Software Engineering, Firmware, Security, Security Analysis.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • 1 year of experience in writing tests for platform security properties in hardware and firmware.

About the job

Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. Security Engineers work with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. In this role, you will also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities.

Our team secures the hardware, firmware, and management stack of platforms at scale.

We secure platforms at Google by working on the intake and tracking for all platforms that get security consultation in Platforms Security, and conduct security reviews for core elements of our security posture: integrity, attestation, and the management stack for hardware and low level firmware. We are SMEs for selected platform security topics and coordinate with TI security and ISE for full coverage. Our team’s SME coverage includes: debugging, RAM, BMCs, physical hardening, applied crypto, switches, RTL security and ARM secure FW. We contribute to gSoC secure firmware and lead the OpenTitan RoT security assurance and PQC enablement.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $118,000-$170,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement automated security test infrastructure and specific tests to ensure correct and sufficient implementation of security controls for hardware platforms.
  • Scope and define automated security testing criteria to maintain security controls for hardware deployed in Google's data centers.
  • Scope and deliver comprehensive security reviews of hardware/firmware components.
  • Develop and refine threat models, risk assessments, and define security requirements for hardware products entering Google’s data centers.
  • Design and engineer the necessary security controls for identified threats and risks, and provide subject matter expertise to PIE teams designing and developing the next generation data center hardware.
