Configuration Engineering Manager, Manufacturing

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in Configuration, Systems engineering for Data center products.
  • 8 years of experience in people management.
  • Experience in Configuration or Systems engineering and related system assembly, including BOM structure and product configuration.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience working in NPI teams developing hardware products (servers, networking, storage).
  • Experience in supply chain or manufacturing roles with an emphasis on systems, tools, data, and engineering.
  • Experience using technical productivity tools such as PDM/PLM tools (Windchill, Agile), CAD 3D Modeling tools (Creo, Solidworks), and Productivity tools (e.g., Google Sheets).
  • Ability to work, influence, and resolve conflicts cross-functionally with internal/external partners.

About the job

The Configuration Engineering team is under the Cloud Supply Chain and Operations (CSCO) team, responsible for engineering and delivering efficient and capable system configurations to Google’s data center fleet. As a Configuration Engineering manager within Google Technical Operations, you will lead the team responsible for providing mission-critical system configuration definitions, and support and guidance for Google’s next generation data center offerings.

As a Configuration Engineering manager within Google Technical Operations, you will lead the team responsible for designing and delivering efficient and capable system configurations to Google’s data center fleet. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver complex Configuration Engineering solutions, including working with stakeholders and customers to ensure that we deliver well-engineered compute permutations. You will also influence and affect the transformation of internal business processes and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Configuration Engineers, Configuration technical program manager and Product Data management program manager. Set and communicate individual and team priorities that support organizational goals. Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development, and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Demonstrate technical, communication, and leadership understanding with the Configuration and Product Data Management staff. 
  • Inform and lead organizational and business transformations to improve the operational capability and predictability of the Configuration Engineering function.
  • Build and maintain critical stakeholder relationships with cross-functional leaders of Engineering, Project Management, Planning and Order Fulfilment, Manufacturing and Deployment organizations, representing the Configuration Engineering Function.
  • Contribute to the advancement of the Technical Operations Community through participation in various organizational development activities.
