Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, or Interaction, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of professional experience in product design and related roles.
  • 10 years of experience in a senior role creating strategy and designing products.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working collaboratively with senior designers, and executives in product management and engineering.
  • Experience with elevating product craft.
  • Experience making key contributions to innovative, successful products.
  • Ability to create a culture that nurtures talented UXers, solves complex design problems, and delivers simple product solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate positions and advocate designs.

About the job

As the Director of UX for Workspace Platform, you will lead the UX organization that drives the evolution of Workspace being a suite of applications to a cohesive whole, ensuring businesses and users are successful in their use. You will be responsible for driving the development of the horizontal design strategy and vision to enable Workspace to be user-centered across the product portfolio. You'll lead across a complex ecosystem and influence through strong product and leadership sensibilities, both to internal and external stakeholders.

As the UX leader, you will lead a high-functioning design team and continue to "raise the bar" of the Workspace expertise within the organization. You'll work closely and partner with Designers, Engineers and Product Managers to impact Google Workspace. You will also lead the UX strategy for Workspace's AI-powered data classification, which will help customers understand and protect their information at scale.

In this role, you will apply your passion for excellent user experience to guide design processes, develop and grow talented members of your team, and fully enable your teams to create the best possible experiences across all of Google Workspace.

AI will change the future of work in profound ways, and our products— Gmail, Docs, Drive, Calendar, Sheets, Vids and Meet are at the forefront. From pre-computed summaries for email threads, summaries for meetings, and videos created from a document using lifelike AI avatars, our AI opportunity is huge. You will work with model builders (Google DeepMind), work with exceptional leaders, and have the ability to impact billions of users across the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $267,000-$376,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Guide compelling product vision and strategic roadmaps through UX and the organization's use of user-centered principles and methods.
  • Lead UX projects from the initial concept through execution and landing. Drive operational and executional excellence.
  • Manage and mentor a team of 54 designers.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with leaders within Workspace and the broader Google organization.
  • Serve as a thought leader to guide and provide perspective on the evolution of Google Workspace Platform.
