Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in data center operations or other relevant operational experience in non-data center industries (e.g., power generation, HVAC and refrigeration, hospitals, industrial manufacturing, military, oil and gas, maritime/marine, chemical cluster, etc.).
- 5 years of experience managing technical teams and vendors in charge of operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and controls infrastructure and components.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience collaborating with other business units to meet company goals and standards.
- Understanding of the operations and maintenance of electrical, control, mechanical, and facility systems in mission-critical environments such as data centers, power generation plants, chip fabrication facilities, or chemical processing plants.
- Ability to develop and grow team members, through coaching, mentoring, and training.
- Ability to set, prioritize, and achieve business objectives.
- Excellent people management and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
About the job
The Data Center Operations team is responsible for keeping Google’s global fleet of data centers running safely, reliably, efficiently and smoothly. The team installs, commissions, operates and maintains some of the most advanced, sustainable, electrical infrastructure, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditions (HVAC) and cooling systems in the world.
You will inspire, lead, and develop a team of people to run our data centers safely and reliably. You will create approaches to reduce operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You lead and ensure that environmental and safety standards are met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly In emergency situations or abnormal conditions. You manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.
In a typical week, you will assess technical systems, address performance issues, and support technical teams to minimize downtime while maintaining operational, safety, and environmental standards. You will review operational budgets, expense forecasts, and performance metrics to ensure cost-effective strategies.
Other regular tasks include managing vendor performance and agreements, aligning goals with partners, and developing and delivering project management for internal and global initiatives. You will handle emergency preparedness, operational excellence, and planning.
At any time, you will be ready to lead the response to critical events and ensure high facility availability. Additionally, you will lead regulatory and customer audits, ensure compliance, and participate in community events to drive talent acquisition.
Responsibilities
- Develop approaches to reduce operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. Be responsible for leading and growing a team in 24x7 data center operations.
- Plan and execute campus operational budgets, expense forecasting and manage established budgets. Create strategy for cost effective operations, focused on total cost of ownership.
- Be responsible for meeting service level agreements (SLAs) with internal teams on efficiencies and cost. Lead efforts to integrate Google-wide strategy and execution with internal and external business partners.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and innovation in approaching traditional data centers and challenges. Empower your team through hiring, talent development, and career support.
