About the job

The Finance Operations team manages Google's cash transactions on a global basis and ensures that Google's incoming and outgoing cash processes are controlled, effective and efficient. As a member of this team, you'll find innovative ways to manage our complex set of transactions. You'll make processes more efficient and scalable, work to ensure the highest level of quality of our operations, and proactively minimize operational risk. Externally, you collaborate with our extended workforce partners and internally, you will collaborate across the multiple areas of the Financial Operations team.

Technical Infrastructure (TI) is the backbone of Google - the global data centers, networks and integrated hardware and software that power both Google customer products and services, including Google Cloud, and our internal operations. Google builds and operates one of the largest private data center fleets in the world. It is a complex technical area with very large operating and capital budgets growing year over year.

As the finance partner team for TI, our mission is to help deliver better decision-making, provide insights for strategic and tactical decisions, and bend the cost curve down to provide Google with a competitive advantage.

Our team leads data center investment decision-making, including project funding reviews for executive leadership and board approvals, evaluates what, when, how much capacity to build, and produces cost, utilization, and other financial reporting.

We build and transform leadership in data centers, with focus on impact and influence in all aspects of the business. Culturally, we have built an organization that operates as one team, with focus on collaboration and growth/development.

The name Google came from "googol," a mathematical term for the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. And nobody at Google loves big numbers like the Finance team when providing in depth analysis on all manner of strategic decisions across Google products. From developing forward-thinking analysis to generating management reports to scaling our automated financial processes, the Finance organization is an important partner and advisor to the business.

Responsibilities

  • Drive cost and operational excellence through deep technical expertise, data analysis, and business partnership to deliver insights and make recommendations to leadership. Drive performance against key metrics alongside business partners.
  • Deliver financial analysis and modeling to evaluate the Net Present Value (NPV), Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), Return on Investment (ROI) of new technology and new Data Center-related investment opportunities. Implement and maintain financial controls and build community for the Data Centers Build Finance team.
  • Lead preparation and review of Data Center investments. Prepare deliverables, recommendations, and presentations for VP+ level reviews.
  • Manage large, complex initiatives spanning multiple organizations including but not limited to TI business partners, accounting, corporate finance, product finance, internal audit, systems, and engineering teams.
  • Guide the development, automation, and consolidation of financial tools to scale the Finance team.
