Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C++).
- 3 years of experience in applying machine learning or artificial intelligence techniques to real-world problems.
- Experience with data structures and algorithms, and software design and architecture.
- Experience with Search Quality concepts, including relevance, recall, and precision.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related technical field.
- Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs), including fine-tuning, evaluation, and deployment.
- Experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP) or information retrieval.
- Ability to build user-centric products in the learning and education space.
- Ability to work on engineering programs and collaborate effectively across multiple product areas or organizations.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will redefine learning for billions. You will integrate AI Mode (AIM) into Google Search, creating personalized, interactive educational experiences, from math help to fine-tuning Large Language Models (LLMs). You will plan development and quality for our AI-powered learning solutions. You will be involved with ML model training, data pipeline design, and model evaluation. We are looking for an AI/ML engineer passionate about education and solving quality tests to join us and build transformative products with global impact, collaborating across Google Search, YouTube, Gemini, and DeepMind.
The Global Sustainability team enables Google to build a more sustainable future for everyone by driving strategy and solutions. We drive the development and implementation of Google’s global sustainability strategy to further empower action, ensure alignment and prioritization, identify leadership opportunities, and mitigate risks. We drive sustainability strategy and programs on carbon, circular economy, water, product integration, reporting, and employee engagement, while serving as a sustainability leadership advocate internally and externally.Responsibilities
- Lead the training of sophisticated machine learning models, meticulously exploring model labels, training data, features, architectures, and hyper parameters to continuously enhance model accuracy and improve feature precision and quality.
- Partner with Product Technical Leads and Product Managers to define and execute comprehensive quality goals for AI-powered learning experiences.
- Generate innovative ideas for precision/recall improvements, novel use cases, and overall product quality, fostering cross-functional collaboration with engineers from Search and LearnX, and researchers from DeepMind.
- Design and implement robust data pipelines for efficient training data collection and meticulously evaluate trained models through AutoRater, Human Evaluation, and live experiments, refining evaluation methods as needed.
- Develop in an ambiguous and changing environment, taking an iterative approach to effectively work on quality tests and drive impactful solutions.
