Senior Staff Engineer, AI Developer, Platform

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, testing, and launching complex software products.
  • 5 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role, including setting technical direction, owning design and architecture, mentoring engineers, and guiding project execution.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in writing high-quality Go/Java/Python code.
  • Experience with API design, multi-tenancy, containerization, and security in cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform).
  • Ability to produce clean, well thought out designs.

Our mission is make developer tools dramatically easier to navigate, consume and extend, providing the core cross-product services including but not limited to license, quota and overages management, anti-abuse protection, billing, customers onboarding and Product Led Growth (PLG), enterprise governance, inference, and cross-tool observability.

In this role, you will work at the intersection of extreme partner demand and challenging engineering problems (e.g., migration to new APIs, anti-abuse protection, compliance horizontals), influencing the product roadmap for AI Developer Tools. The AI Developer Platform serves as backend for multiple surfaces, Platform partners: antigravity, Gemini CLI, Gemini code assist extensions, Android studio, colab, Chrome Dev tools, Devsites, agent manager web and others.The Google Cloud AI Research team addresses AI challenges motivated by Google Cloud’s mission of bringing AI to tech, healthcare, finance, retail and many other industries. We work on a range of unique problems focused on research topics that maximize scientific and real-world impact, aiming to push the state-of-the-art in AI and share findings with the broader research community. We also collaborate with product teams to bring innovations to real-world impact that benefits our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Own the overall design, architecture, and implementation strategies for AI Developer Platform, ensuring alignment with the mission to enhance developer productivity.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineering Leads, and Partner teams to define the goals and drive the strategic roadmap.
  • Guide the team through technical choices, balancing short-term needs versus long-term strategic goals. Participate in design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies and approaches.
  • Establish and maintain high technical standards, ensuring code quality, reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Set the technical direction, help plan deliverables and milestones and drive execution. Identify and proactively address technical issues and risks, and propose effective solutions to advance the team's velocity and impact on developer tooling.
