Program Manager, Data Center Construction

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in program or project management.
  • 5 years of experience working with technical teams on data center or mission-critical facility construction projects.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • Experience in managing vendor relationships, with an understanding of standard practices in the design and construction industry, including fast-track design build processes and associated documents.
  • Experience with data center equipment/environments, including switch gears, generators, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, controls, security monitoring systems and fire safety systems, with an understanding of start up/commissioning processes.
  • Ability to gather requirements, organize resources, prioritize tasks, manage schedules, and achieve objectives within defined goals.

As a Program Manager at Google, you’ll lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish — working with stakeholders to plan requirements, manage project schedules, identify risks, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. Your projects will often span offices, time zones, and hemispheres. It's your job to coordinate the players and keep them up to date on progress and deadlines.

As Google expands its global infrastructure, we are searching for a Program Manager to join the Data Center Construction team.
In this role, you will bring the data centers to operation. You will manage various aspects of data center projects, from initial concept and design through to construction and deployment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensuring projects stay on track and within budget while meeting the standards for quality and efficiency. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$216,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including leadership from key vendors, trades, and commissioning agents, to foster relationships, identify risks and opportunities, and ensure alignment on project objectives.
  • Advocate a project delivery strategy and communicate it to internal teams and extended stakeholders. Drive alignment around key milestones, workflows, and critical path management for capital improvement and greenfield, and brownfield projects.
  • Provide leadership and development opportunities to internal teams consisting of project management and engineering professionals. Oversee project schedule and cost control activities, ensuring adherence to program-level controls, safety, and quality initiatives.
  • Optimize resource allocation across the project portfolio. Identify and mitigate issues that could impact project timelines or budgets. Maintain a perspective on resource needs, ensuring that master planning, utilities, design engagement, and equipment supply chain remain ahead of project demand.
