Software Engineer II, Full Stack, Google for Education (English)

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 year of experience with software development in Java.
  • 1 year of experience with data structures or algorithms.
  • 1 year of experience with full stack development.
  • 1 year of experience with databases, artificial intelligence applications, or APIs.
  • Ability to communicate in English fluently to interact with local stakeholders in this customer-facing role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Experience in backend coding languages such as GOLang, Rust, or Java.
  • Experience with Large Language Model (LLMs) or agentic systems for processing large data sets.
  • Experience in Machine Learning model coding languages (e.g., Python).
  • Experience developing large scaled software systems.

As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. In this role, you will be responsible for building full-stack applications and Application Programming Interface (APIs) for Google Classroom, for building proofs of concepts and working directly with our Google Workspace and Google Cloud partner teams, and working with external partners to meet the needs of our customers. You will develop backend systems and data pipelines, build highly available services on Google’s planet-scale infrastructure, and develop user-facing front-end interfaces in applications like Google Classroom, Workspace Admin Console and others. As the interoperability team in Education, we work across technical stacks, both internal to Google and with industry standards and external systems.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Develop full-stack software (UI, API and back-end).
  • Diagnose and resolve performance issues with APIs and databases.
  • Work with One Roster 1.2 and other open standards in education technology to build new APIs, data pipelines and services.
  • Collaborate with teammates and with technical lead to complete development tasks within a team-based development process.
