Government Affairs and Public Policy Analyst

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience working in communications, political campaigns, or within government.
  • 2 years of experience working within think tanks, public interest groups, technology industry groups, or corporate public policy organization.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Internet technologies and the policy environments advocating on tech policy issues, related to artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, taxation, trade, infrastructure, consumers.
  • Experience working with EU institutions and developing a strong network of external EU relationships.
  • Ability to demonstrate a proven track record of the EU tech policy files and initiatives.
  • Excellent networking skills and ability to manage relationships with third-party partners.
  • Excellent investigative, organizational and communication skills.

About the job

As part of the Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) European Union (EU) Institutions Team you will help shape and lead Google's policy strategy in Brussels. Your role will impact initiatives important to Google's mission and operations in the EU. You will develop strategy and lead engagements to the EU policymakers and stakeholders across a wide tech and AI policy domains.

You will be part of a global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions.You will combine creativity and intellectual expertise with the organizational skills to design and implement advocacy strategies and manage campaigns. In this role, you will advocate and communicate for Google externally, and bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction.

Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engagement strategies with the EU institutions, industry and third-party stakeholders on various policy areas, from regulatory to reputational and executive outreach affecting our industry. 
  • Monitor, coordinate and lead relevant policy activities with the various Google policy teams located in a number of EU countries as well as with the global teams on key policy issues.
  • Join the AI and economic policy cluster. Part of your responsibilities will include managing the engagements with third-parties, including trade associations and industry groups and collaborations.
