Senior Technical Writer, Site Reliability Engineering

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing.
  • Experience with writing developer-facing materials (e.g., code documentation).
  • Experience with reading and evaluating source code written in programming languages such as Python, Go, C++, Java etc.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with writing documentation using Markdown, HTML, and CSS.
  • Ability to work well in a cross-functional team environment with a focus on knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to work separately and on multiple initiatives at the same time.

About the job

Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.

In this role, you will take technical information and communicate it clearly, concisely, and accurately to various engineering audiences. You will enable engineers to be more efficient and productive by delivering varied user-focused technical content.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $129,000-$189,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, write, and maintain a range of technical documentation, including how-to guides, conceptual overviews, reference materials, playbooks, training material, and best practice documents.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other stakeholders to understand user needs, gather information, and ensure technical accuracy; edit, clarify, and enhance content written by engineers, and help them improve their writing skills.
  • Organize and restructure existing documentation to improve clarity, findability, and usability.
  • Manage documentation projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a changing environment.
  • Analyze user feedback and documentation metrics to identify and address areas of improvement.
