Staff Interaction Designer, Google Beam

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in product design or UX.
  • Experience with Gen AI product interactions.
  • Include a portfolio, website, or any other relevant link to your work in your resume (providing a viewable link or access instructions).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience in product design or UX.
  • 5 years of experience working in a complex, cross-functional organization.
  • 4 years of experience leading design projects.
  • Expertise in rive (e.g., optimizing files, data binding, reusable libraries) and the ability to build 3D prototypes and view concepts (like virtual backgrounds) on-station.
  • Understanding of AI to accelerate UX design workflows and prototype Gen AI product interactions (e.g., connecting voice and gaze inputs to models).

As an Interaction Designer, you'll apply user-centered design methods to craft industry-leading user experiences from concept to execution, working with design partners to evolve the Google design language to build beautiful, innovative products.

Google Beam is a true-to-life new communication technology from Google that allows people to feel like they’re having real face-to-face conversations, no matter the distance. Powered by realistic state-of-the-art 3D imaging and spatial audio and integrated with today’s leading remote video platforms, Google Beam enables you to be immersed in the moment, together. As a part of the Google Beam team, you'll work with incredible teammates across all major functions in a fast-paced product-oriented environment. Your contributions will have an impact on the future of communications with Google products. You will apply technology to solve that really important problem that we often want to be together and we can’t.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$280,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Define and advocate long-term user experience and product strategy for the Beam platform, driving alignment among cross-functional leaders in Engineering, Product, and Research.
  • Sketch future experiences for Beam (such as Gen AI features and Juniper hardware), grounded in UX principles. Build your outlook and bring it to life in 3D, iterating extensively on the finer details of interactions to arrive at a high-quality experience.
  • Advocate user-driven design methods by owning our rive workflows including optimizing files, creating reusable component libraries, and bringing UI components to life while minimizing the support needed from software engineers.
  • Collaborate with User Research to plan studies by setting up control panels and preparing rive files, enabling UX Researchers to seamlessly control settings and conditions on-screen.
  • Solve highly ambiguous and complex design problems involving screen-space, geospatial design, and novel capabilities.
