Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, performing statistical analysis, and coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL) (or 5 years of work experience with a Master's degree).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 8 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, performing statistical analysis, and coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
  • 5 years of experience with data mining, querying, and managing analytical projects.
  • 3 years of experience developing and managing metrics or evaluating programs/products.
  • Experience working with Finance, Sales and GTM, especially around monetization efforts, and identifying business challenges and opportunities.

About the job

The Education Data Science team plays a fundamental role in the success of Google for Education, by providing knowledge of business and product performance, and developing insights to help drive strategic decisions.

As a Data Scientist on the team, you will work with product, engineering, and business teams throughout the entire development process to help build products for users globally. In this role, you will conduct proactive analyses to identify and size new opportunities, deliver data-driven insights to help with product strategy and decisions focused on growing the customer base, and identify opportunities to increase business growth. You will help shape new product experiences and develop innovative ways to evaluate the quality of the content and the user experience.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $156,000-$229,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Define, own, and evolve product/business success metrics, report, analyze and forecast trends of key product/business metrics and make recommendations to improve them. 
  • Perform data exploration to understand user behavior and identify opportunities for improving and growing education products, and identify critical business and product functionalities and assess their business growth impact. 
  • Develop analysis, forecasting, and human/auto evaluations to improve the quality of Google's AI/LLM products.
  • Apply technical knowledge with observational data analysis, modeling, and causal inference to answer the product/business questions.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, UX and cross-functional teams to influence, prioritize, and support product and business strategy.
