Senior Product Manager, Google Labs

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in product management or related technical role.
  • 3 years of experience taking technical products from conception to launch (e.g., ideation to execution, end-to-end, 0 to 1, etc).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a technology or business related field.
  • 5 years of experience building and scaling complex technical platforms or developer-facing systems.
  • Experience building products for developers, infrastructure, or platform ecosystems.
  • Experience working on AI powered and data intensive products, especially those requiring strong governance, safety, or trust guarantees.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity and operate effectively at a system or portfolio level.
  • Ability to engage deeply in system design, data flows, and tradeoffs with senior engineers.

We're responsible for guiding products throughout the execution cycle, focusing specifically on analyzing, positioning, packaging, promoting, and tailoring our solutions to our users.

Labs is a group focused on incubating early-stage efforts in support of Google’s mission to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our team exists to help discover and create new ways to advance our core products through exploration and the application of new technologies. We work to build new solutions that have the potential to transform how users interact with Google. Our goal is to drive innovation by developing new Google products and capabilities that deliver significant impact over longer timeframes.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $183,000-$271,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the long-term product goal and strategy, including role within the broader continuous AI system and its relationship to other Google developer tools products, workflows, and external ecosystems. 
  • Lead product discovery and validation in ambiguous spaces, identifying the highest-leverage problems to solve, testing risky assumptions, and using evidence to guide decisions. 
  • Drive alignment across multiple teams and product areas to ensure coherent system behavior, clear ownership boundaries, and efficient execution. 
  • Partner with engineering and research lead to shape system architecture, investigative capabilities, and data strategies, ensuring technical decisions support long-term product goals. 
  • Establish product principles around trust, explainability, control, and safety, and ensure they are reflected consistently in product behavior and user experience.
