About the job
Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department -- cutting-edge strategies are born, tested and tested again. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facilities. You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements -- even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians.
With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).
The Thermal Systems Engineering team stands to accelerate innovation that powers Google's global infrastructure. We are the vital force behind the thermal solutions for Google's Plan of Record buildings, owning the entire thermal system design from the rack to the chiller. Our focus is to engineer and deliver solutions that maximize speed of delivery, optimize cost, enhance efficiency, and ensure uncompromising reliability for Google's critical data centers.
This team handles tests, innovates with significant impact, and plays a crucial role in cooling the future while maintaining Google's advantage. Beyond traditional engineering, it's about pioneering the future. We work with various cross-functional teams, translating the evolving and demanding needs of Google's high-performance ML fleet into groundbreaking system and product requirements. This work directly shapes the technology that underpins the advanced AI, keeping Google's infrastructure responsive to market demands.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical lead for our mechanical infrastructure, collaborating with Planning, Operations, Execution, and Construction teams to develop new data center (DC) mechanical infrastructure systems.
- Investigate and lead next-generation mechanical systems to align with company long-term strategies.
- Create system-level concepts and schematic designs, carrying them through to detailed construction designs and operations.
- Provide and prepare documents including statement of work, engineering analysis and reports, FMEAC, design documents, product specifications, drawings, budget, cost estimates, schedule, and commissioning test plans.
- Perform engineering analysis using software tools.
Collaborate with partner teams to optimize the existing fleet and future products to meet the market demands of Google’s Machine Learning (ML) fleet.
