About the job
Our computational challenges are so big and unique we can't just buy our hardware, we've got to make it ourselves. Our Platforms Team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's services. As a Mechanical Engineer you design and evaluate our data center systems, identifying product requirements and contributing to research and project planning. From the chip to chiller, you are responsible for designing and optimizing an architecture that will scale with Google's continued growth.
With your technical expertise, you lead and manage projects, develop product and process improvements, provide consultation to others and help facilitate training and development.
The Camera Hardware team inside the Tech Engineering Imaging and Vision (TEIV) group is responsible for developing camera hardware for all Google’s Pixel products. In this role, you will work with internal cross-functional teams and external partners to design and develop camera components, modules, and integrate them into product systems. You will have the responsibility of the entire lifecycle of projects including new technology and road map products.
In this role as camera actuator product design engineer and mechanical design subject matter expert, you will lead the mechanical design and control system development of camera actuators. You will be responsible for performance, robustness, and tolerance analysis, ensuring optimal actuator functionality. Your responsibilities will extend to reviewing supplier designs, Design for Manufacturing (DfM), and tooling, as well as applying engineering analysis to resolve mechanical challenges. You will work with camera module, reliability, firmware, and software teams to integrate industry-leading actuator technologies.
The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.
Responsibilities
- Work with internal cross-functional teams and external partners to define, design and lead the camera actuator mechanical design and Auto Focus/Optical Image Stabilization development from concept to mass production.
- Develop mechanical solutions that achieve product integration requirements, including performance, reliability, thermal, and electromagnetic coexistence goals.
- Conduct mechanical failure analysis and drive corrective actions.
- Lead and collaborate with technology partners and vendors to advance camera actuator design technology.
