The TV Systems Performance software engineering team plays a pivotal role in Google TV's remarkable success. This team works closely with Google internal teams, SoC partners, and OEMs to dramatically elevate the performance and quality of devices powered by our TV OS, while seamlessly scaling to accommodate a growing user base.

We are seeking a passionate and eager Software Engineer to join our team and embark on a journey of optimizing system-level performance for Android TVs. As a Software Engineer, TV Systems Performance, you will delve into the intricacies of performance analysis, collaborate with experienced engineers and external SoC partners, and contribute to the development of performance solutions for our Android TV devices and software.

Google TV is redefining the TV experience to make it highly personalized, Google-smart, and content-forward to help users access the world’s media. Through recent launches like Chromecast with Google TV, we bring together the best of Google. Google TV is focused on scaling across the OEM ecosystem; working closely with third-party streaming partners plus many teams across Google (for example: Ads, Play, and YouTube); and building a business on TV platforms, OTT devices, and mobile devices. With over 110 million active users of our products plus being amidst the quickly evolving media and entertainment industry, there are plenty of opportunities for the team and individuals in it.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $141,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Enhance TV Generic Kernel Image (GKI), collaborating with internal and external partners to deliver kernel and driver enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain performance testing frameworks and automation scripts to ensure the highest standards of quality and performance.
  • Incorporate ML/AI into device performance analysis and optimization e.g., based on traces and log. Collaborate with engineers to investigate, design, and implement performance optimizations, focusing on systems software including kernel.
  • Evaluate and document the impact of performance optimizations on device throughput, latency, and resource utilization.
  • Contribute to the development of Google certification tests for performance and GKI compatibility. Stay ahead of the curve by researching the latest performance optimization techniques and tools.
