About the job

Like Google's own ambitions, the work of a Software Engineer (SWE) goes way beyond just Search. SWE Managers have not only the technical expertise to take on and provide technical leadership to major projects, but also manage a team of engineers. You not only optimize your own code but make sure engineers are able to optimize theirs. As a SWE Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. SWE teams work all across the company, in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design; the list goes on and is growing every day. Operating with scale and speed, our exceptional software engineers are just getting started -- and as a manager, you guide the way.

As a Senior Manager, you will guide our Multimodal Platform team. You will develop and scale our platform for content acquisition, ingestion, serving, and ranking, focused on multimodal content and User Generated Content (UGC). You will drive efforts to organize and understand multimodal content, making it universally accessible across Google Search. Your key responsibilities include enhancing content quality, expanding capabilities for new applications, and collaborating with various product teams.

In Google Search, we're reimagining what it means to search for information – any way and anywhere. To do that, we need to solve complex engineering challenges and expand our infrastructure, while maintaining a universally accessible and useful experience that people around the world rely on. In joining the Search team, you'll have an opportunity to make an impact on billions of people globally.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and process multimodal content, including the entire AI Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) from model training to evaluations, selecting the best serving systems and overall architecture.
  • Advance multimodal content infrastructure for the benefit of all Search teams.
  • Provide directly consumable content and reusable infrastructure for key GenAI Search feature launches and expansion along with support for emerging content needs.
  • Enable key partners in Search (e.g. Google Lens) to become a more answer-forward interface by providing foundational capabilities for multimodal content understanding (via enhancing image annotations for image search corpus, reduce developer hours spent, etc.).
  • Advance UGC for Search, from platform to quality aspects, focused on leveraging multimodal assets to provide foundational UGC APIs and capabilities that improve all Search experiences.
