Technical Program Manager, Environmental Health and Safety, Design for Safety

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in risk assessments.
  • 2 years of experience in the design build environment facilities (e.g., data centers, chip fabrication (fab), pharma, power plants, industrial, etc.).
  • 2 years of experience in environmental, health and safety (EHS) management, including management of EHS compliance for data center or other industrial facilities.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Process Safety Engineering, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene or a related field.
  • Experience in collaborating and building relationships with cross-functional teams and executive-level stakeholders.
  • Experience in building and industrial design safety standards (e.g., ANSI, ISO, NFPA, OSHA, Hazard and Operability (HAZOP), ATEX EU Directive).
  • Knowledge of data center operations, facilities management, engineering and construction.
  • Ability to identify key issues, gather and analyze data sets to support hypotheses and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent investigative, problem-solving and project management skills.

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

Using your extensive technical and leadership expertise, you manage projects of various size and scope, identifying future opportunities, improving processes and driving the technical directions of your programs.

The Compliance, Safety and Risk Management (CSRM) team delivers the safest, most resilient technical infrastructure through comprehensive risk management. Our mission is to promote Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) integrity, partnership, and care, enabling everyone to grow.

In this role, you will provide EHS leadership for the safe design of new infrastructure and data centers. You will engage all organizational levels to improve Design for Safety standards and will collaborate with engineering, construction, and operations to evaluate program risks and execute work plans to meet key objectives.

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical and HVAC systems in the world. We are an upbeat, creative, team-oriented group of engineers committed to building and operating powerful data centers.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $132,000-$189,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Serve as the industrial safety expert for data center and infrastructure designs, leading comprehensive EHS risk assessments throughout the entire product life-cycle.
  • Drive global collaborative efforts to mitigate EHS risks, ensuring all designs comply with regulatory standards and internal program requirements.
  • Monitor program progress and manage the timely delivery of high-quality design for safety (DfS) outputs for cross-functional approval.
  • Onboard and coach teams on DfS processes while continuously improving technical standards through industry best practices and lessons learned.
  • Partner with stakeholders to implement engineering solutions that enhance EHS performance, and travel up to 15% of time as needed.
