Facilities Lab Manager, Quantum AI

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 year of experience with safety regulations and protocols in a research environment.
  • 1 year of experience with maintenance of lab facilities with CDA, LN2, House Vacuum, Process Chilled Water, DI/RO Water Systems, Process Exhaust, Chemical Waste Systems and other hazards/chemicals.
  • 1 year of experience overseeing electrical, mechanical, and plumbing construction in a research and development setting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with CAD software (e.g. Onshape, Solidworks, AutoCad, ProEngineer), carpentry machining, welding, brazing, soldering and other joining methods, power tools and CNCs.
  • Experience providing safety guidance for developing chemical processes, equipment, and laboratory design.
  • Experience troubleshooting vacuum, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical and software systems down to a block/board level.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical measurements (oscilloscopes, generators, calipers, etc.).
  • Experience in maintaining lab facilities infrastructure including PCW, CDA, N2, LN2 and HEPA filters and with lean manufacturing or 5S operations in labs.

Google's custom-designed machines make up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Hardware Testing Engineering team ensures that this cutting-edge equipment is reliable. In the R&D lab, you design test equipment for prototypes of our machinery and develop the protocols used to scale these tests for the entire global team. Working closely with design engineers, you give input on designs to improve our hardware until you're sure it meets Google's standards of quality and reliability.

Google Quantum AI’s team mission is to make useful quantum computing tools available to the world to enable humankind to solve problems that would otherwise be impossible. Quantum AI is building novel systems that can leverage quantum mechanics to outperform the world's largest computers at certain classes of problems.

The Facilities Manager will oversee and coordinate facility build outs and equipment installations in a semiconductor fab. This consists of everything related to tools within the fab and the utilities that supply these tools. The fab is a class 1000 clean room with various tools supporting research, development and small manufacturing. Tasks associated with this role include fab layout and design for these tool installations and relocations. Daily activities include detailed interactions with various contractors to provide needed direction for pre-work, installation and start-up activities. This would include proper scheduling of the delivery, move in, installations and start-up of the equipment within the fab. This role requires an individual who can prioritize tasks while communicating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. The role often interfaces with contractors, research scientists, engineers and EHS teams.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $113,000-$161,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Work with technicians and engineers on equipment and facility related projects, maintenance, shutdowns, and emergencies.
  • Support equipment installation by translating technical documentation and work with vendors to provide site-ready infrastructure.
  • Support the development and enforcement of operational procedures for laboratory safety and hazards.
  • Determine space planning of equipment with necessary utilities and support the infrastructure.
  • Assist the facilities team with following equipment maintenance procedures and service contracts in a high-tech environment.
