Technical Writer, Google Cloud Security Operations

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in technical writing.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Computer Science, or Electronic Engineering.
  • Experience in documenting APIs, database design concepts, XML-based authoring systems, and with Markdown.
  • Ability to work remotely and independently, taking full ownership of documentation projects.
  • Ability to create clear, concise, and technically accurate documentation in SaaS, enterprise security, or computer networking, and in using UNIX/Linux CLI.
  • Ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and collaborate across teams, and to to prioritize and succeed in an ambiguous environment with competing demands.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time-management skills.

About the job

Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Product, Engineering, and UX/UI to determine documentation requirements.
  • Identify and document critical user journeys.
  • Write, publish, and maintain customer-facing documentation, including references, online content, in-app guides, and tutorials, based on advanced concepts in cybersecurity. 
  • Define documentation requirements with various teams, and work with engineers to create and update documentation sets.
  • Edit, clarify, and enhance documents written by engineers, PM, and other stakeholders.
