Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a data science related role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a quantitative field.
  • 5 years of experience in data science, analytics, or business intelligence in compliance, risk management, or financial domain, sanctions or AML.
  • Experience with sanctions screening systems and their data structures.
  • Experience building and deploying data pipelines and automated reporting.
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Cloud Platform, BigQuery).

The Google Compliance team makes sure that our business is always consistent with the current financial regulations. Comprised of multitaskers, this team balances Google's legal and compliance requirements with the dynamic needs of our users and the values of our company. As part of this team, you proactively identify pain points and gaps in existing policy frameworks and find innovative solutions. You develop efficient compliance systems and work with teams to implement these across the organization. You are thorough in all you do and see to it that as Google pursues our next big idea, we always have our bases covered.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective and accurate processing of alerts, investigations, and reporting related to economic sanctions regulations, contributing significantly to Google's sanctions compliance program. This role demands a deep understanding of global sanctions regimes, exceptional investigative abilities, and the capacity to operate effectively both separately and collaboratively within a changing environment.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $107,000-$153,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Apply data science techniques, including statistical modeling and analysis, to optimize sanctions screening rules, algorithms, and thresholds to improve accuracy and reduce false positives.
  • Develop and maintain automated reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to monitor the performance, efficiency, and effectiveness of sanctions screening operations and key risk indicators.
  • Collaborate with sanctions compliance experts and operations teams to understand their investigative needs and translate them into data science and BI solutions.
  • Utilize scripting languages (e.g., Python, R) and SQL to extract, clean, transform, and analyze large datasets from various sources.
  • Develop and implement basic machine learning models for tasks such as entity resolution or risk scoring to enhance screening capabilities.
